6-Day Selous, Mikumi & Udzungwa Mountains Safari

Tour Overview
This 6-day safari showcases three distinct Tanzanian landscapes. You’ll start in Selous Game Reserve, Africa’s largest protected wildlife area, known for elephants, lions, wild dogs, and riverine habitats. Then it’s on to Mikumi National Park, where open savannahs and woodlands are home to giraffes, zebras, and big cats. The adventure finishes in Udzungwa Mountains National Park, a biodiversity hotspot famed for its forest hikes, rare primates, and stunning waterfalls. You can travel between locations by road or small aircraft, depending on your preference and schedule. Accommodation combines comfortable lodges and tented camps that blend nature with relaxation.
Day 1: Arrival and Game Drive in Selous Game Reserve
Depart from your specified location by road or flight to Selous. Upon arrival, meet your guide and head out on an afternoon game drive through the reserve’s diverse habitats. Spot elephants bathing in the Rufiji River, lions lounging under acacia trees, and possibly elusive wild dogs. Return to your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Full Day in Selous with Game Drives and Optional Boat Safari
Spend the day exploring Selous with morning and afternoon game drives. Between drives, enjoy meals and downtime at the lodge. Optionally, take a boat safari on the Rufiji River, where you’ll see hippos, crocodiles, and birdlife from a unique water perspective.
Day 3: Transfer to Mikumi National Park and Afternoon Game Drive
After breakfast, transfer by road or flight to Mikumi. Check in to your lodge and embark on an afternoon game drive. Mikumi’s open plains provide great sightings of elephants, lions, giraffes, and large herds of zebra. Return for dinner and overnight.
Day 4: Morning Game Drive in Mikumi and Transfer to Udzungwa Mountains
Begin the day with a morning game drive in Mikumi, followed by breakfast and a transfer to Udzungwa Mountains National Park. Arrive at the lodge nestled near the rainforest, where you can relax and prepare for tomorrow’s hike.
Day 5: Hiking in Udzungwa Mountains National Park
After breakfast, set off with a park guide on a trek to the famous Sanje Waterfalls. Along the trail, observe endemic primates such as the Udzungwa red colobus monkey and diverse bird species. The hike offers lush forest scenery and rewarding views. Return to the lodge for an evening meal and overnight stay.
Day 6: Departure
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast and optional short nature walk around the lodge before transferring back to your starting point by road or air. The safari concludes with lasting memories of Tanzania’s diverse wildlife and landscapes.
