5-Day Mikumi, Selous & Ruaha Circuit Safari

Tour Overview

This 5-day safari circuit combines three of southern Tanzania’s iconic wildlife destinations: Mikumi National Park, Selous Game Reserve, and Ruaha National Park. The journey begins from your specified location, with options for scenic road transfers or short domestic flights connecting each destination. Mikumi offers sweeping savannahs dotted with herds of zebra, giraffe, and elephants, alongside big cats. Selous is renowned for its vast, untamed wilderness and rich variety of predators, hippos, and rare wild dogs. Ruaha caps the experience with its rugged landscapes and dense populations of lions and elephants. Accommodations range from comfortable lodges to luxury tented camps that emphasize immersion in nature without sacrificing comfort.

  • Day 1: Arrival and Game Drive in Mikumi National Park

Starting from your chosen location, you either fly or drive to Mikumi. Upon arrival, you meet your guide and embark on an afternoon game drive through Mikumi’s rolling plains. The park’s open landscape makes spotting elephants, giraffes, zebras, and predators like lions straightforward. After the drive, settle into your lodge or camp for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 2: Morning Game Drive in Mikumi and Transfer to Selous Game Reserve

An early morning game drive allows you to catch wildlife during their most active hours. After breakfast, you travel to Selous Game Reserve by road or a connecting flight, depending on your itinerary. Upon arrival at Selous, enjoy lunch at the lodge before a late afternoon game drive along the Rufiji River, where hippos and crocodiles are commonly seen. Dinner and overnight stay follow.

  • Day 3: Full Day in Selous Game Reserve

Spend the day exploring Selous’ diverse habitats with morning and afternoon game drives. The reserve is home to large populations of elephants, lions, wild dogs, and a spectacular array of birdlife. Optional boat safaris on the Rufiji River offer a different perspective on wildlife viewing. Between activities, relax at the lodge with meals and leisure time.

  • Day 4: Transfer to Ruaha National Park and Afternoon Game Drive

After breakfast, depart for Ruaha National Park by road or light aircraft. The journey passes through varied landscapes, arriving in time for lunch and an afternoon game drive. Ruaha’s baobab-studded plains and riverine woodlands offer sightings of large elephant herds, lions, leopards, and cheetahs. Return to camp for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 5: Morning Game Drive and Departure

A final early morning game drive provides one last chance to catch wildlife in the golden dawn. Return to camp for breakfast before beginning your road transfer or flight back to your starting point. The safari concludes, leaving you with lasting memories of Tanzania’s wild heartlands.
