5-Day Gombe Stream Safari

This five-day safari presents an exceptional opportunity to follow in the footsteps of Jane Goodall and observe the renowned chimpanzees of Gombe Stream National Park. The itinerary commences with a flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar to Kigoma, followed by a boat transfer across Lake Tanganyika to the park. Guests will spend their days trekking to observe chimpanzees in their natural environment, exploring forest trails, and participating in lake-based activities. Accommodation is arranged in comfortable lodges or tented camps, ensuring a balance of adventure and relaxation.

  • Day 1: Arrival in Kigoma – Transfer to Gombe

The safari begins with a morning flight from Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar to Kigoma. Upon arrival, guests are met by their guide and transferred by boat across Lake Tanganyika to Gombe Stream National Park. After checking in at the lodge or camp, enjoy lunch and a relaxed afternoon along the lakeshore before dinner and overnight stay.

  • Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking & Waterfall Hike

Following breakfast, guests embark on a guided chimpanzee trek. The forest is vibrant with wildlife, and guides assist in tracking chimpanzees. Spend the morning observing these primates before returning for lunch. In the afternoon, there is a hike to the scenic Kakombe Waterfall, followed by dinner and overnight at the lodge.

  • Day 3: Chimpanzee Tracking & Birdwatching

The day begins with another chimpanzee trek, with opportunities to encounter other primates such as red colobus and vervet monkeys. After a picnic or lunch at the lodge, the afternoon is available for birdwatching, swimming in Lake Tanganyika, or relaxing at camp. Dinner and overnight follow.

  • Day 4: Lake Excursion & Cultural Visit

After breakfast, guests can opt for a final chimpanzee trek or enjoy a leisurely morning. Later, a boat excursion on Lake Tanganyika offers opportunities for swimming, fishing, or appreciating the scenery. In the afternoon, a visit to a local fishing village provides cultural insights. Return to camp for dinner and the final overnight stay.

  • Day 5: Departure – Flight Back to Dar es Salaam/Zanzibar

After breakfast, guests return by boat to Kigoma for their flight back to Dar es Salaam or Zanzibar, concluding the Gombe chimpanzee safari.
