4-Day Ruaha National Park Safari (Fly-in or Road)

Tour Overview

This four-day safari takes you deep into Ruaha National Park, Tanzania’s largest and most untouched wilderness. Depending on your preference, you can arrive by scenic bush flight or overland through the Southern Highlands. Ruaha is famed for its dramatic landscapes, where baobab-dotted plains meet rolling hills and the great Ruaha River. Wildlife sightings are exceptional, with large elephant herds, thriving lion prides, leopard, cheetah, buffalo, kudu, and more than 570 bird species. Accommodation is in an intimate lodge or tented camp, combining comfort with an authentic bush atmosphere, and perfectly located to explore the park’s diverse habitats.

  • Day 1: Arrival and Game Drive

Your journey begins with either a morning flight over the Tanzanian highlands or a road transfer from your starting location. Upon arrival at Ruaha’s airstrip or park gate, your guide will meet you and transfer you to your lodge or camp. After a welcome drink and check-in, enjoy lunch and some time to relax before setting out on your first game drive. The late afternoon is prime for spotting predators as they become active, as well as herds of elephants moving toward the river. Return to camp at sunset for dinner and your first night in the wild.

  • Day 2: Full-Day Game Drive

After an early breakfast, head out for a full-day game drive to explore Ruaha’s varied terrain. The park’s vast size means you can venture far from the crowds, encountering giraffes on the plains, hippos in the river, and antelope species like sable and roan in the woodland. A picnic lunch will be enjoyed in a scenic location before continuing your game viewing into the afternoon. By evening, return to camp for a hot shower, a cold drink by the fire, and a freshly prepared dinner.

  • Day 3: Game Drives

The day begins with coffee or tea before a sunrise game drive often the best time for spotting big cats on the move. After several hours in the field, return for a hearty breakfast and some downtime at the lodge, perhaps enjoying the views from your veranda. In the mid-afternoon, set out again for another game drive, focusing on areas rich in wildlife activity. Keep an eye out for elephants feeding under ancient baobabs and the vibrant birdlife that thrives along the riverbanks. Return to camp for dinner and your final night in Ruaha.

  • Day 4: Game Drive and Departure

Enjoy one last early morning game drive, capturing those final memorable sightings before breakfast. After checking out, transfer to the airstrip for your flight or begin your road journey back to your original starting location, arriving by late afternoon.
