3-Day Tarangire, Ngorongoro & Lake Manyara Safari

A three-day safari covering Tarangire National Park, Lake Manyara, and the Ngorongoro Crater provides a concise yet well-rounded introduction to Northern Tanzania’s wildlife, ideal for travellers managing a tight schedule. This itinerary takes guests through varied ecosystems, from Tarangire’s notable elephant populations to Lake Manyara’s unique tree-climbing lions, culminating in the Ngorongoro Crater, renowned for frequent Big Five sightings. Most tour operators offer private vehicle transport, knowledgeable English-speaking guides, and a selection of accommodations, ranging from straightforward camping options to more upscale lodge stays. This approach ensures efficiency and comfort while maximizing your exposure to Tanzania’s iconic landscapes and wildlife.

  • Day 1: Tarangire National Park Safari

You’ll be collected from your hotel in Arusha or Karatu and transferred directly to Tarangire National Park, where your safari experience begins amidst the distinct baobab-dotted landscape. Expect to spot elephants, zebras, giraffes, buffalo, and, with any luck, perhaps a lion or leopard as you make your way through the park.

A scenic picnic lunch is arranged, commonly with a view of the Tarangire River, allowing you to relax before continuing your exploration. The afternoon features the park’s impressive riverine forests and expansive grasslands, which are habitats for more than 500 different bird species.

By evening, you’ll be transferred to your lodge or camp near Ngorongoro, where dinner and comfortable overnight accommodations await.

  • Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater Game Drive

Following breakfast, you’ll begin your drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and descend into the crater for a morning game drive. There’s a strong possibility of spotting the renowned Big Five: lion, elephant, buffalo, leopard, and rhino, along with zebras, wildebeest, and hippos. A designated picnic area within the crater will serve as your lunch spot before you continue exploring the crater floor, where you may observe flamingos and other birdlife near Lake Magadi. In the evening, you’ll be transferred to your lodge or camp in the vicinity of Lake Manyara for dinner and an overnight stay.

  • Day 3: Lake Manyara National Park Safari & Return

After breakfast, you will enter Lake Manyara National Park and drive through its lush forests and acacia woodlands, keeping an eye out for elephants, baboons, giraffes, and, with luck, tree-climbing lions. Along the lakeshore, you may spot flamingos, pelicans, and hippos. Enjoy a picnic lunch overlooking the soda lake, then continue game viewing in the afternoon before returning to Arusha or Karatu, with a hotel drop-off marking the end of your safari.
