This two-day safari takes you to Mikumi National Park, a scenic wildlife haven nestled between the Uluguru Mountains and the vast Selous ecosystem. Whether you arrive by a short bush flight or through an adventurous road journey, you’ll be welcomed by sweeping savannahs dotted with acacia and baobab trees. Mikumi is known for its impressive herds of elephants, zebras, and buffalo, as well as lions, giraffes, wildebeest, and over 400 bird species. Accommodation is in a comfortable lodge or tented camp inside or near the park, offering a peaceful blend of comfort and authentic bush charm.
Day 1: Arrival and Afternoon Game Drive
Your adventure begins with either a scenic morning flight over rural Tanzania or a road transfer through charming countryside and traditional villages. On arrival at Mikumi’s park gate or airstrip, your safari guide will meet you and transfer you to your lodge or camp. After a welcome briefing and a freshly prepared lunch, there’s time to relax before heading out for your first game drive in the late afternoon. The golden light of the setting sun casts a magical glow over the plains, often revealing elephants on their way to waterholes, giraffes nibbling on treetops, and predators becoming active. As dusk settles, return to your accommodation for a warm dinner and an overnight stay surrounded by the sounds of the African night.
Day 2: Morning Safari and Return Journey
Wake early to the calls of the wild and enjoy a light breakfast or tea before setting off on a morning game drive. Early hours offer the best chance to see lions returning from their nightly patrols, antelope grazing in the cool air, and flocks of birds in full activity. Depending on your interests, you may focus on specific wildlife sightings or explore lesser-visited areas of the park. After the drive, return to your lodge for a hearty breakfast and some time to relax. Later, your guide will transfer you to the airstrip for your flight back or begin the road journey to your starting location, arriving by late afternoon.
