Stanley’s Kopje Camp

Stanley’s Kopje Camp is uniquely positioned on the only elevated land in an otherwise flat, open plain, providing excellent vantage points for wildlife viewing. A nearby waterhole attracts game right within sight of the camp, making the Mwanamboga area one of the best spots for game viewing in Mikumi National Park. The camp is named after the famous explorer Morten Stanley, who passed through this area on his historic expedition.

The camp offers 12 spacious, airy Meru-style tents set on high wooden platforms, each with traditional thatched roofs that provide shade. Every tent is themed around the history of an explorer or slave trader, and features a private veranda where guests can relax while watching wildlife around the camp.

The main dining banda sits atop the hill with stunning 360-degree panoramic views. Built in classic Swahili style with a steeply pitched roof, the dining area surrounds a central bar with seating and dining areas facing all directions. Just below the main building is a shaded sitting area next to the swimming pool, allowing guests to cool off while continuing to enjoy game viewing right from the pool’s edge.
